THE SCIENCE BEHIND GHD DUET BLOWDRY

THE KEY TO ACHIEVING THE PERFECT SALON BLOW-DRY IS TO SHAPE THE HAIR AS YOU REMOVE THE UNBOUND MOISTURE.

This fixes the hydrogen bonds in its first instance as opposed to setting straight and then re-shaping. This provides better softness and longevity rather than setting the hair straight then reshaping with a hot brush or curler after styling. So why does ghd duet blowdry give you the best blow dry of your life?

WHAT IS BOUND AND UNBOUND MOISTURE?

Bound moisture is the moisture internal to the hair. When naturally air drying the hair, it is the bound moisture that is left behind. Typically, Bound moisture is what gives the hair a soft moisturised feeling.

Unbound moisture is external moisture or water that sits on the surface of the hair. This is what gives the hair the feeling of being wet. To achieve a style and set the Hydrogen bonds the unbound moisture needs to be removed.

WHAT IS HEAT-AIR XCHANGE™ TECHNOLOGY?

Revolutionary Heat-Air Xchange™ Technology combines controlled airflow, an actively heated barrel plate with snag-free heated bristles and sensor technology which monitors the surface temperature 400X a second for a flawless, frizz-free finish with no heat damage.1
The custom brushless DC motor delivers an ultra-concentrated airflow through an expertly designed air grille that works in synergy with the Heat-Air Xchanger, to efficiently take your hair from wet to blow-dried with 3X more volume2, all while enhancing your hair’s natural shine for a long-lasting, salon-worthy blow dry of your dreams.

OPTIMISED AIR FLOW

FOR OPTIMAL/DECREASED DRYING TIME AND EFFICIENCY

Crafted by ghd engineers, the Duet Blowdry grille is a masterpiece of both form and function. Inspired by the pursuit of maximum airflow, our engineers and product designers have crafted this feature to optimize efficient drying. The result is a feature that seamlessly blends technology and design for an unparalleled styling experience.

In the quest for efficient drying packed into a lightweight design, we've found the perfect level of volume (air amount) and velocity (airflow speed). The result is a bespoke motor, exclusively tailored for ghd, significantly enhancing both drying and styling performance. This motor stands as our smallest, most lightweight, and efficient to date.
Enhanced by smart sensorless technology, it maintains consistent fan speed, ensuring a compact and lightweight structure without compromising on precise speed control.

PRECISION HEAT & AIR SMOOTHNESS

DESIGNED TO INCREASE HAIR ALIGNMENT AND SOFTNESS

The cornerstone to achieving optimal shine and smoothness in your hair lies in precise, smooth, and focused airflow. Leveraging the expertise in air management from the award-winning helios hairdryer, the Cambridge innovation team has seamlessly integrated its key features into the Duet Blowdry. Stator veins artfully shape the airflow, converting it into a sleek, directional airflow improving shine and reducing flyaways.

Years of research at ghd have revealed the distinct effects of heat on wet versus dry hair. Consequently, achieving the ideal temperature at each stage of the styling process is paramount in a wet-to-styled product. The compact air heater within the product seamlessly collaborates with the Heat-Air Xchanger and aids in the evaporation of unbound moisture, effectively drying and shaping the hair during the styling process.

OPTIMISED HEAT & AIR DISTRIBUTION

HEAT-AIR XCHANGER TECHNOLOGY FOR EVEN DISTRIBUTION OF HEAT

To allow the hair to dry efficiently while providing a perfect finish the optimum amount of airflow must be deployed. Too little and the hair will not dry, too much and you create frizz and flyaways. Duet Blowdry’s air vents expel the perfect amount of air to create an aura of warm air around the brush as you dry meaning you feel no extreme heat near the scalp and you get a sleek smooth finish while drying the hair efficiently.

To achieve a consistent temperature across the full length of the barrel while also allowing for an optimum amount of air to be deployed from the brush vents our ghd Cambridge team has developed Heat-Air xchange technology, especially for ghd Duet Blowdry. This technology takes the heated airflow from the heater and circulates it through 16 internal channels, allowing for high air pressure to be achieved within the barrel head transferring some of the thermal energy within the air into the aluminium barrel while also splitting the airflow to direct a portion out through the air vents.

PERFECT GHD SHAPE & SMOOTHNESS

DELIVERING OPTIMUM HEAT THROUGH OUR HEATED BARREL AND SNAG-FREE BRISTLES

ghd Duet Blowdry features an ultra-gloss coated, actively heated, elliptical-shaped barrel plate which helps to smooth and create shape. Through heat transfer from the Air-Heat Xchanger the heated barrel plate is kept at the optimum wet to blow-dried temperature of 120°C. Monitored 400X per second by 2 sensors, one on either side of the barrel, these make sure the surface temperature is consistent from root to tip leaving hair feeling soft to the touch and with no heat damage.1

As the hair glides through the brush a combination of longer nylon bristles and shorter ultra-gloss coated heated bristles will ensure that optimum temperature is delivered throughout the full section, allowing you to dry and style all hair types with no tangles, snagging or damage. The bristle length has been optimised allowing for more tension on the wider side of the barrel while the sides host shorter bristles to support creating shape and movement.

When drying and styling, the management, and way the air is deployed into the section of hair will affect the fly-away and frizz level of the result. Within ghd duet blow dry we have developed a complex journey for the hair as it glides through the bristles of the brush, we call this the Lattice Effect.
As the hair glides through it is divided and directed through and around the heated and non-heated bristles, guiding the hair out of the path of the air events to allow efficient drying and the perfect tension for all hair types.
