What is the best temperature to straighten & style hair?

185 degrees is the optimal temperature for styling all hair types. Styling lower than 185 degrees, the style won’t hold. Styling hotter than 185 degrees can cause irreversible damage.

THE GHD DIFFERENCE: 185 IS THE OPTIMUM TEMPERATURE FOR ALL HAIR TYPES

Scientists at our Cambridge R&D labs have discovered the perfect styling temperature: a precise 185°C is the sweet spot for achieving gorgeous, long-lasting styles while minimizing hair damage.

LET US EXPLAIN WHY 185°C is the best temperature for hair styling

Too hot at 190°C and above: You risk internal damage to the cortex of the hair which is irreversible and will lead to hair breakage, dryness and split ends.

Too cool at 160°C or cooler? External damage to the cuticle may occur, leading to dry, porous hair that does not hold style.

But at 185°C, the magic happens. This optimum temperature allows styling tools to provide salon results without compromising hair health and unnecessary heat damage.

What are the challenges of styling hair with adjustable temperatures?

Many users of styling tools, like hair straighteners or curling wands, set their temperature higher than 185 degrees to achieve their desired look quickly and efficiently. However, this comes at a hidden cost: irreversible damage to their hair.

Styling hair at 190 degrees or higher can cause damage.

Does styling your hair with too much heat impact hair growth?

Yes, using heat styling tools at a high temperature can affect hair growth by causing breakage inhibiting the hair from getting longer at its natural growth rate.
